AP-5 was an RA-7 protocol droid that worked in the Republic military during the Clone Wars and would later serve the Galactic Empire as an inventory droid, working on Imperial cargo ships. AP-5 would serve the Empire for the next few years, until he aided in steal Imperial cargo ship, 241, alongside rebel astromech droid, C1-10P, for the rebellion and would aid the rebels set up an base on a remote planet, far away from Imperial territory. AP-5 would aid the rebels again and help Sabine Wren infiltrate an TIE pilot academy.
