The LAAT/i Gunship, which stands for the Low Altitude Attack Transport/Infintry , was originally the main ship in the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars and would be replaced by the Imperial Dropship. As a result, most of the remaining gunships were put in storage units across the galaxy. These storage units would eventually come under attack and, due to poor Imperial defences, the Alliance to Restore the Republic stole and refitted several of the LAAT/is with Rebel colors and heavily modified them. They were then used on Rebel occupied planets like Tatooine, Yavin IV, and Er'Kit.
